Hardwood vs. Other Flooring: Making the Right Choice
Hardwood vs. Other Flooring: Making the Right Choice Hardwood Flooring vs. Other Flooring Types: Making the Right Choice for Your Home When it comes to
We all know it is very possible to experience all four seasons in one day here in Georgia, and even though it doesn’t get super cold here very often, you still want a floor that will look and feel good in your home 365 days a year. Listed below are a few types of flooring that are winter-weather friendly!
1. Luxury Vinyl Plank
This floor is a great choice to help keep your house warm, especially when combined with a high-quality underlayment. Not all luxury vinyl plank flooring will need an underlayment, however, as many now come with pre-attached padding for sound and warmth absorption. Not only is this a great choice for winter weather, but it’s easy and quick to install!
2. Engineered Flooring
Engineered hardwood flooring is a great choice because of its stability in high and low humidity environments. Because it is constructed of several layers of bonded wood, it doesn’t tend to shrink or expand as often or as bad as solid hardwood. This also means less buckling and cupping.
3. Rubber Flooring
Yes, you read that correctly. Rubber flooring. Used most often in home gyms, basements, or garages, rubber flooring is very cost-effective and is a great option when you are wanting to cover the concrete in your home. Not only are they cost-effective, but they also do not tend to shrink or expand and are very weather resistant!
Extra Tips for Keeping your Floors Warm
1. Add Underlayment and Insulation
As mentioned, when we talked about luxury vinyl plank, installing a high quality underlayment can help act as a temperature buffer between the subfloor and your flooring, especially when you are installing on concrete. Some great underlayment’s we use at Mr. Hardwood include Black Jack and cork underlayment’s! The type of underlayment you use does depend on the type of flooring you
choose, so be sure to talk to your consultant about the best option for you before purchasing
anything.
2. Use Area Rugs!
Rugs are a great way to add warmth to your flooring while also adding something visually pleasing. Area rugs are great to use under a bed, in a bathroom, or even a small one in the kitchen in front of your sink. Really anywhere where you might be barefoot often!
