We all have the same fear. We pay a contractor to do work on our home with our hard earned money only for them to not deliver the results that were promised. There are even horror stories of contractors not showing up to work at all. Often times, these contractors were the low ballers, the ones that promised they could get the work done for the cheapest price. And it’s understandable especially in today’s economy, that price is an important factor. But sometimes it’s worth paying a little extra to ensure they right person does your job. Here are somethings to look out for when choosing a flooring contractor:
1. Scope of Work on the Estimate
The most common phrase we get from people is “I got a quote from another company that can do it cheaper.” And hey, we won’t blame you if you decide to go with them. We just want your floors to look beautiful. When you do get flooring estimates though, make sure the estimate is as specific as possible. If they said you need new risers, make sure you see the material and install for them on there. If they say you need new vents, make sure you see the material, install, and refinishing of those vents. If not, they make come back and hit you with change orders so the once “cheaper” company, is now more expensive. Don’t be afraid to ask the company you are trusting your money and time with to get specific.
2. Terms and Conditions
Anyone that says they read the entire Terms and Conditions of a document deserves a round of applause. But they are also the ones who know how important that fine print is. It’s important to read terms and conditions so you know what the contractor is responsible for and what you are responsible for. In a perfect world, there would be no problems. But because we have yet to find that perfect world, accidents do happen which is why it’s important to be aware of that small print.
3. Contact Information
