How do you Install LVP?

We get a lot of questions about installation. How long will it take? Do I need to leave the house? What should I do with my pets? Here at Mr. Hardwood, we want to make this process as easy as possible for you. That’s why we’ve come up with a quick process for what you can expect when getting new luxury vinyl plank installed in your home.

1. Furniture and Demo
Mr. Hardwood is a one stop shop. This means not only will we install new floors for you, but we’ll also move your furniture and remove the existing floors. On the very first day of your flooring project, we’ll move the furniture into a separate part of the house, or even a garage. If necessary, this can also include any appliances like a stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer, sink, or toilet. Once those items are moved, we’ll rip out the old flooring and dispose of it in one of our own dumpsters at our warehouse. Please note, we do ask that you remove any small, breakable items like pictures, trinkets, and books and unplug all your electronics before we move them. This will help ensure the process is a smooth and quick one.

2. Subfloor Repair
Because you can’t see underneath your floors (unless you have x-ray vision, in which case give us a call), you won’t know if your subfloor has been damaged in anyway until the old flooring is ripped up. Sometimes, all you might need are a few bags of self-leveler thrown down. Other times, part of the subfloor might need to be replaced. Either way, we can fix it while staying completely transparent with you!

3. Install
Once your subfloor is prepped and ready, it’s time for the moment you’ve been waiting for…underlayment! I’m just kidding. Many of the luxury vinyl planks on the market come with a pre-attached pad, which cuts out that extra step. We’ll carefully lay down each plank, ensuring they fit together tight and straight. The install process is tricker than you might think. Many times, the boards in each box will be of varying length, so knowing how to install each one and where to install each one takes some practice. Luckily, Mr. Hardwood only uses the best of the best to install, so you don’t even have to think about that!

4. Putting Furniture Back
Once your new LVP floors have been installed and look beautiful, we’ll carefully place your furniture back in the same place it came from. Before we replace it though, we’ll add new furniture pads to the bottom of each piece, ensuring your new floors don’t get scratched or scuffed in the process.

5. Painting
Like I said before, Mr. Hardwood is a one stop shop that also includes painting! When you get new LVP, you usually get new quarter round to match. Once that quarter round is installed, our expert painters will come through and give it a fresh new coat of paint which will really tie the room together. As you can see, the process to install new luxury vinyl plank can be quick and seamless! Depending on
how large the project is, the entire process can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days! Some people opt to stay in a separate part of their house, while others make the decision to stay outside of their home. Either way, we can get the job done!
